A Systematic Review of Drought Indices in Tropical Southeast Asia

This study systematically reviews the under-researched experience of performance indices to determine extreme hydroclimate in tropical Southeast Asia. The review was conducted by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis methods with SCOPUS databases. screening articles is based on inclusion exclusion criteria encompassing published between 2000 2021 solely focused three (standardized precipitation index or SPI, standardized evapotranspiration SPEI, palmer drought severity PDSI) applied Asia, form English. found 14 532 met those were analyzed thematically synthesized narratively. results showed strengths simple data input (SPI SPEI); are commonly used at government level Asia due their availability, which has Viet Nam as highest (5 articles) number publications, followed Malaysia (4 articles), Thailand (3 Indonesia (2 articles). On other hand, sensitivity SPI SPEI limitation specific purposes such agricultural sector when In end, we highlighted potential future research applying quasi-biennial oscillation South Western Indian Ocean well El Niño Southern Oscillation climate indices.
